The most critical consideration in building a wood gate is material selection. We use only clear grade, kiln-dried Western Red Cedar. Each board is carefully examined for structural quality, resulting in unity, symmetry and consistency throughout. Through this process each gate acquires its own unique character and becomes truly distinctive. When required for structural stability and to prevent sagging, we use steel support frames which are powder coated for maximum corrosion resistance and easy long-term care.

Mortise and tenon joinery is used to join the wood frame members. It is the strongest wood-to-wood connection. Panels within the wood frame are tongue and groove construction and 'float' within the rail and stile framework. Both the mortise and tenon joinery and the tongue and groove construction allow for the expansion and contraction of the wood through the changing seasons.
